Mens Spa Retreats and Why You’ve Never Been to One

Hopefully you’ve arrived here in search of information on mens spa retreats. I mention that because the first time I searched for this topic 10 or so years ago I found about 200 different porn sites littered in with the occasional useful result. Don’t get me wrong, porn has a place in the world. It has to, otherwise what would sustain the breast implant industry? But I digress, if you came here expecting a gigantic sexual feast of links here, I apologize in advance. There is no porn here I’m afraid to say.

Strange as it may sound to the uninitiated, men really look for (and sometimes secretly long for) a spa environment from which to unwind, relax, and/or pick themselves up either physically or emotionally. The problem with men is they find it hard to admit to such pursuits, and that’s why I am developing this blog. I want to help bridge the gap between wanting to do it and actually doing it. So far in my life I have successfully converted a Marine sniper, a professional hockey player and a mixed martial artist, along with countless businessmen. Having been a travel journalist for the better part of my life I have had the chance to see the positive end result of spas and retreats. The rejuvenating power of a spa is a secret women have had for generations, and finally with the acceptance of “metro sexuality” the mens spa is poised to make a positive difference in every man brave enough to take the plunge!

What Do Guys Really Want?

Well, off the top of my head the answers could be painfully obvious. But let’s look beyond the PS3 and the Harley Davidson V Rod momentarily. Existentially speaking, the modern man in 2007 is looking to improve himself, he wants to advance in his world and to be desired, and he wants to remain youthful for as long as that is possible. Also as important – at least to those men I have interviewed over my years as a journalist – it’s a desire to be ahead of the next guy, using any means necessary. That’s where a mens spa can work wonders. The benefits of relaxation and the blessings of looking after ones self can easily lead to an unfair advantage when called to perform at your best.

Conserving Strength Wins Battles

To say it has become a dog eat dog world is to make a mad and insulting understatement. People these days are multi tasking and changing careers more than ever before, and when we are not being inundated by the stress of an ever evolving work environment most of us are struggling just to maintain a positive place in this world. Therefore it’s never been more important to retreat to a place where you can occasionally be pampered, looked after, and replenished.

I like to think of a day at the spa as a “micro-vacation”. The phrase was coined after I made a deal with my husband to attend a spa once a week for an entire month. By the end of that first month he never looked so good, and his attitude was exactly that of a man returning from Bali.

I’ve noticed that dedicated mens spas are far more prevalent in South Asia at the moment, in fact they have become quite a fad in Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore. The world is catching up though, and spas dedicated to men are quickly being accepted as the modern male ego adjusts to the realities of aging and focuses more on appearance and inner well being.

Spas have traditionally held an annoyingly simple formula over the years, after all it’s really not rocket science to figure out what will make a person look and feel better. The spa has proven time and time again it’s effectiveness in helping people get back on track physically, emotionally, some even say spiritually. There’s something quite intoxicating about leaving the world behind for a location that was manufactured simply to pamper you, attend to your needs, and take care of your body while relaxing your mind, all the while quietly focusing on making you look as good as humanly possible.

The First Step:

Take some time this week and attend a day spa in your area. Go and have a facial and a pedicure, or relax and have a rejuvenating Thai massage. Try something, anything that has a spa retreat quality and watch as your psyche improves exponentially. After you take the first step it won’t be long before you are planning a full fledged mens spa retreat vacation. That’s where I can really help as I plan on showing you the best valued retreats, day spas in the world at large – along with offering the best advice I can so you can get the most out of the experience.
